December 2022

In today’s blog post, we’re highlighting three events that we expect to make headlines in December.

  1. On Dec. 12, TIME will reveal the person, group or idea that had the greatest impact on the globe over the previous 12 months, a tradition of the magazine since 1927. Last year, Elon Musk was named Person of the Year, since “he is reshaping life on Earth and possibly off Earth as well,” according to Edward Felsenthal, editor-in-chief of TIME. Who is most likely to receive this year’s accolade?

  2. The 10th anniversary of the Sandy Hook School Shooting, also known as the Newtown shootings of 2012, will be marked on Dec. 14. The shooting, which remains the deadliest elementary school shooting in U.S. history, sparked a renewed debate in the U.S. over gun regulation, including calls to make the background-check system nationwide and implement new federal and state gun laws.

  3. The month of December is ripe with holidays. Hanukkah will commence on Dec. 18, Christmas will be celebrated on Dec. 25, Kwanzaa will begin on Dec. 26 and folks around the world will ring in the new year on Dec. 31.
