In today’s blog post, we’re highlighting three events that we expect to make headlines in April.
- Following a one-week delay, the Senate Judiciary Committee will vote on Ketanji Brown Jackson’s nomination to the Supreme Court on April 4. The upcoming series of votes on the Senate floor could result in Jackson’s confirmation as the court’s first Black female justice by the end of the week.
- The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences is expected to announce disciplinary proceedings against actor Will Smith on April 18 following an incident involving comedian and host Chris Rock at the Oscars ceremony on March 27. Disciplinary action may include suspension or expulsion from the Academy. According to CBS News, other “members who have been expelled include Harvey Weinstein, Roman Polanski and Bill Cosby.”
- Earth Day will take place on April 22 featuring events and activities aimed at mobilizing more individuals to take action toward solving the climate crisis. President Biden, who pledged early on in his presidency to take serious action on climate change, has begun forging his own environmental actions. In addition, “Biden has now targeted or overturned about three-quarters of the Trump administration’s deregulatory actions,” according to The Washington Post.
