Senior Vice President

BIO

Scott Butterworth directs the RW Jones Agency’s work with K-12 schools, providing veteran, quick-response leadership on projects including crisis communications, strategic messaging, neighborhood relations and publications.

He offers clients the skills and insights that come from decades of handling mass-media and educational communications.

Much of Scott’s work involves independent school clients who are served through Fine Point Communications, a company he founded in 2020 and brought into the agency in 2023.

Scott is deeply familiar with the unique opportunities and challenges facing independent K-12 education. He shares this knowledge with communications directors through a monthly newsletter, Refill, that highlights timely topics and emerging trends.

Before launching Fine Point, he worked as an editor at The Washington Post from 2001 to 2015 and directed communications at a nationally recognized girls’ school from 2015 to 2020. He is based in the Washington area.

Scott’s work has been recognized by the Council for Advancement and Support of Education, SimpsonScarborough and InspirED School Marketers. He has presented to the CASE-NAIS Independent Schools Conference and is a longtime supporter of the International Coalition of Girls’ Schools. He serves annually as a judge for InspirED School Marketers’ Brilliance Awards.

Scott holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Houston. He is an accredited beekeeper and, with his child, maintains a small apiary in the family’s backyard.
