The RW Jones Agency is pleased to announce that Jamal Watson, Ph.D., will be joining the strategic communications firm as a Vice President. Watson, the long-time executive editor of Diverse Issues In Higher Education, will focus on opening and growing a presence for the agency in Washington, D.C.

Watson joined Black Issues In Higher Education in 2005 as a staff writer. He eventually rose to become executive editor and helped to shift the publication to broaden its focus, including changing its name to Diverse Issues In Higher Education. Under his watch, Diverse has grown to a staff of two dozen and has become a go-to trade publication for academe.

Watson will officially join the firm on June 10, 2019. As a Vice President of the RW Jones Agency, Watson will open a Washington, D.C. office for the firm. He will work directly as a senior counselor to agency clients, as well as identifying new growth opportunities for the firm.
Watson holds a bachelor’s degree in English and Theology from Georgetown University, a master’s degree from Columbia University’s Graduate School of Journalism and a Master’s and Ph.D. in Afro-American Studies from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. He has held faculty teaching positions and is the author of a forthcoming biography on civil rights activist and MSNBC talk show host, the Reverend Al Sharpton.
